Wendy Kaur

Freelance Journalist

I’m a Canadian-born writer and journalist whose parents were born in Punjab, India, and raised from young ages in the West Midlands, UK.

I often write about high profile women—from politics, media, or Hollywood—but also current affairs, human rights, profiles, books (both memoirs and biographies), lifestyle, culture, fashion, beauty, and more.

World-view current affairs stories include extensive coverage for The Globe & Mail on the mass protests happening in Iran. Profiles include an interview with the international voice of the protests, Masih Alinejad, who has been advocating the cause from her FBI safehouse, meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron about the cause.

For ELLE US, I interviewed Marina Nemat, who spent two years in Iran’s infamous Evin Prison for speaking out against the regime. Nemat discussed how Mahsa Amini’s fate could easily have been her own.

I did a feature for The Globe & Mail on photojournalist Lynsey Addario (New York Times, TIME, National Geographic) who risked her life photographing women under the Taliban regime pre 9/11. As American and allied troops left Afghanistan, Addario helped get out more than 100 women who aided Western journalists in the past 20 years.

I reported on the release of Saudi Princess Basmah bint Saud Al Saud from arbitrary detention. Interview was with her legal advisor who lobbied the UN Office of the High Commissioner, the US Senate, and the European Parliament for the Princess’ release. Interview was also with London-based Human Rights organization ALQST, who broke the news of the release on Twitter.

Closer to home, I did a feature on sexism in Canadian politics for ELLE Canada and interviewed five prominent women in public office from all political stripes who say that collectively tackling racism and sexism needs to be recognized as a societal problem, and should be given the same energy as economic development.

Exclusive celebrity interviews include Amy Poehler, Björk, and Priyanka Chopra.

I also did a profile on Nadja Swarovski on how she brought her family’s crystal empire to the cutting edge of high couture, architecture, and design.

Other interviews include former CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin on leaving the network after 13 years; and celebrated Latin author Isabel Allende, who was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2014.

I'm excited to write on anything from current affairs, politics and human rights, profiles, high fiction and memoirs, fashion, beauty, lifestyleand anything else that has the makings for a story that the world needs to know about!
